The City of Good Neighboors, Does Good Again

There is a reason Buffalo is called The City of Good Neighbors. We may not be the most prosperous or economically booming city, but local citizens and business alike know how to give back to the community when a good cause is involved. That is one of the best parts of living in a city where the six degrees of separation becomes 2 or 3 degrees, one of the benefits of a small city with a big heart. On November 16, 2010 at 10:00am, in the lobby of The Larkin at Exchange Building, a presentation of gifts was made to the Salvation Army from the generous hearts of the employees and staff of a variety of Western New York businesses. Grace House Ministries, founded by Rev. Terry King today unveiled and dedicated its new corporate offices in the former City of Buffalo fire hall at 2025 Bailey Avenue. The 11:30am dedication of its new offices will serve as headquarters to the growing ministry serving over 500 men in transition out of prison into society again. King, a former inmate himself, experienced a radical change of heart during his time in prison and founded SGM, Inc. in 1999 after he became painfully aware of the lack of coordinated services available for men who are released from prison. Restoring the Soul of New Orleans

By Matt Brown

I linked arms with thirty volunteers this past April for a week long mission trip to New Orleans, LA and came away with a small education in community revitalization, a renewed sense of hope, and a desire to share what I learned, something I believe could be applied in Western New York and cities across America. Our team of thirty was sent out April 10 from Eastern Hills Wesleyan Church in Clarence with a mission to help continue to restore the spirit and soul of New Orleans after Katrina, a city that 5 years later is beginning to glimmer with hope again. Changing the World, One 3x5 Card at a Time

By Tunya Griffin

David Ranzino and his wife Lauren are changing the world, one 3x5 card at a time. You see, they are educating hundreds of thousands of young people about the value and need of social justice in the world today. No, I didn’t say socialism, I said social justice, like helping the poor, feeding the hungry and caring for the homeless and sick. They founded a group called The Love Alliance focused on educating and bringing awareness to these issues and others and one of the main ways of spreading their message is through 3x5 cards full of stats on issues like poverty and other social issues.
