Army on Course
The Salvation Army, Monday, wrapped up their 5th annual Red Kettle Open, a golf tournament meant to raise money and awareness of the many services The Salvation Army offers our community.
The event this year was sponsored by:
Presenting Sponsor: Fichte Endl & Elmer Eyecare
Major Sponsors: Ivy Lea Construction, Inc., Will Poultry Company, & Tops Markets

The shotgun style tournament at River Oaks Golf Club in Grand Island included golf cart rental, usage of the driving range, breakfast and lunch on the patio, giveaways, and a full round of golf!
It is interesting, The Salvation Army does a lot more than just collect money at Christmas time. Our local branch provides disaster relief services, emergency family services, adult rehab, employment assistance, and a lot of other really valuable community services. The Buffalo branch is located at 960 Main St. in downtown Buffalo and offers a host of opportunities for you to get involved and make a difference in our community. From donations, to volunteer opportunities including:
- Sorting, packing, and cataloging gifts in-kind (material donations)
- Property Beautification Program – Monthly (locations may vary)
- Red Shield Luncheon – May 2010
- Red Kettle Open Golf Tournament – Monday, August 17, 2010
- Special Events Preparation
- Disaster Services – Ongoing
- Homeless Outreach – “Urgent Care” (soup run during cold months)
- Babies & Toddlers Supply Ministry – Bi-monthly
- Sorting & Packing Food Bags for Emergency Family Assistance
- Off-Site Preparation - Knitting, sewing, crocheting, etc.
- Community Care Ministries - Visiting local hospitals & nursing homes (monthly & seasonal)
If you missed the event this year, mark on your calendar now because next year is sure to be just as good or better. The event brought together businesses from all over the region, great food, golf cart rental, raffles, overall a must attend event for a great cause. See you next year!
