The Need for Speedy Justice

By Kyle Patterson

With the funerals now complete for the four innocent victims of last week's massacre, what Buffalo needs more than anything is speedy justice in this still looming case of four reckless murders that taunted city streets since last weekend. The city and its residents are now hanging in the balance as police and detectives continue looking at large for the person responsible for this senseless act of violence is still loose.

The reward has been upped to $20,000 for information leading to the arrest of the individual responsible, including a $4000 donation by Rev. Darius Pridgen to the cause.

Solutions to the violence plaguing our streets, a problem that has attracted national attention include everything from earlier closing time for Erie County restaurants and bars, to restrictions on private party usage of bars are being discussed. The mayor according to reports by the Buffalo News insists the solution isn't in earlier closing times, but has highlighted initiatives to get illegal guns off the streets. Mayor Brown is also calling for an increase in journalism reporting on programs that are working in Buffalo to deal with this kind of thing but I would argue more than anything right now, is what we need is this criminal behind bars and justice for these families served.

"When the sentence for a crime is not quickly carried out, the hearts of the people are filled with schemes to do wrong." Ecclesiastes 8:10

Our prayer and attention has to be on getting the gunman behind bars and giving city residents peace. Until that happens Buffalo is going to suffer. All resources need to go towards this end, once we have the man in custody, lets talk about long term solutions.
