The Salvation Army is in the people business. What is most fulfilling is that we help people from all walks of life. It could be someone who just lost their job, or someone who is homeless or lonely or unable to provide for the basics of life. The Salvation Army is here to help with food, clothing, shelter or prescriptions along with encouragement and the skills to help people become self-sufficient. If we can’t help them, we can refer them to the appropriate resource or provide them with counseling and direction. The Salvation Army is usually found in areas with the greatest needs so we can “Do the Most Good” - not only here in Buffalo, but also in other parts of the USA and around the world. We currently serve in 124 countries, providing help and hope to those in despair.
The Salvation Army is a branch of the Christian church and its practical service is based on the teachings of Jesus Christ. Church (or corps) are located in downtown Buffalo, the Eastside (Kensington-Bailey) and the Westside (Grant-Auburn). Salvation Army staff is comprised of trained, experienced and well-prepared individuals with honest hearts. They are called to be the face, the hands and the feet of The Salvation Army.
The most challenging part of our work is finding the resources needed to do it effectively. We network with other agencies when appropriate and collaborate on the needs of the community. Our mission cannot depend on subsidies or grants alone, we look to the generosity of the people of the City of Good Neighbors.
The Salvation Army is more than 146 years old and has been in Buffalo since 1884. We look forward to continuing our mission for many years to come to meet needs, heal hurts and change lives.
