A Night to Honor Israel
To counter the rise of anti-Semitism, Christians and Jews are working together for the common cause of supporting Israel, right here in Western New York. In an effort to further interfaith dialogue between the two religions that at one point viewed each other as enemies, Christian Pastors from churches across the Buffalo region have organized a special night for Christians to gather to honor Israel and the Jewish people. Spearheaded by the effort of Robert Stearns and his ministry, Eagles’ Wings,
based in Clarence, NY, the event will be hosted in Orchard Park this November, titled “Greater Buffalo Night to Honor Israel” and will take place on Sunday evening November 7 at 7 p.m. at the Full Gospel Tabernacle, 3210 Southwestern Blvd. The event will serve as a Christian expression of love and solidarity with Israel and the Jewish people, with the leaders and members of the Buffalo Jewish community invited as special guests.
Stearns highlighted three reasons for the event this November, “As Christians we owe a debt of gratitude to the Jewish people for we they are in God’s plan of redemption. Secondly Christians owe a debt of repentance to the Jewish people for what has happened in the past and the sin of silence by the European church during the Holocaust. Thirdly we share a common enemy in secular humanism and radical Jihad Islam whose agenda is to destroy both Jews and Christians. Lastly we have a responsibility to make a decision with the Jews that never again will something like the Holocaust happen again.”
Stearns added, “We are living in an unprecedented hour when we are seeing a new breed of Christian arise in support of Israel, and I am excited that this includes many from the Christian community in Buffalo.”
“We believe in the Covenant that God made with Israel and the Jewish People, and it is time we do this,” host Pastor Tommy Reid told Buffalo area pastors recently. An influential senior leader in the Buffalo Christian community for several decades, Reid will hold this first annual event at his church in Orchard Park, and the event will have representation from many area churches.
The Greater Buffalo Night to Honor Israel will include special music, speakers, and a kosher desert reception for leaders and members of the Jewish Community. Mayor Brown and members of Congress have been invited. Leaders of the Jewish Federation of Greater Buffalo will attend the event and members of the Jewish community are encouraged to attend. Ellen Goldstein of the Jewish Federation of Greater Buffalo said, “With the issues of Iran and the nuclear threats and when people say they hate you and want to destroy our land we are concerned for Israel more everyday and we really appreciate the support and friendship of Robert Stearns and Eagles’ Wings.”
In addition to Pastor Reid, the Greater Buffalo Night to Honor Israel host committee includes Pastor Jerry Gillis of The Chapel at Crosspoint, Pastor Roderick Hennings of Zion Dominion; Pastor Patrick Jones of Eastern Hills Wesleyan Church; Pastor Matthew Brown of Pentecostal Temple; Pastor Ron Burgio of Love Joy Gospel Church; and many others. The evening is free and open to the public.
