Lockport Cares
"If the community is behind something, it's going to succeed," said Jim Haid, Director of the brand new Lockport Cares emergency housing in the city of Lockport, NY. The doors opened this past November after almost two years of planning and remodeling of the three story house converted into emergency housing for those in need.
With 125 volunteers ready and willing to work, Lockport Cares offers a place to stay for up to 10 days for anyone with a need. The is to give shelter and help people get connected with the right job training and support to get them back on their feet. "Because of the economy right now, some poeple just can't afford an apartment. Others are working underpaid jobs, or some have faced foreclosure," explained Haid. That is why Haid is working with close to 30 churches and 15 agencies to restore hope in Lockport. Agencies working with Lockport Cares include The American Red Cross, Family Services, various churches, and the city of Lockport.
With 12 beds to provide shelter to the homeless, Lockport Cares and Jim Haid are putting their faith into action.
