Buffalo Home & Garden Show

The 2011 Buffalo Home & Garden Show will be two full weekends in March featuring celebrity appearances, interactive seminars, wine tastings and – NEW this year- a variety of cooking demos! Plus, many other unique features in the newly-renovated Buffalo Niagara Convention Center. For Two Weekends Only, March 4-6 and March 11-13, Western New York residents can visit over 400 companies ready to answer home-related questions.
“During the two weekend show, visitors will find informative seminars, celebrity presentations and great promotions,” said Ellen Carroll, Buffalo Home & Garden Show manager. In line with national trends, the show will focus on “The Little Big House” or the ability to live large in small spaces. “Gone are the days of the ‘McMansion’,” said Carroll.
This year’s “The Little Big House” gives show visitors a glimpse of how to achieve big living in small spaces. The Interior Design Association of Western New York (IDA) provides unique areas for storage,
family and pet space. Ann Medinac of Ann Medinac Interiors, Diana Augspurger of Creative Storage and Michelle Bailey of FNS Design Studio coordinated the design efforts for the house. The M P Caroll Hardwood floor giveaway is back at the 2011 Show and this year one lucky visitor will win a brand new strand woven bamboo floor. Bamboo is fast-growing and better for the environment than traditional flooring, and for ‘green’ consumers, it’s the ideal option. The floor measures 200 sq. ft., and valued at $3,000 with installation included. MP Caroll Hardwood is the Official Hardwood Flooring Sponsor of the show.
Exhibiting companies include kitchen and bath, home décor, cabinetry, windows and doors, heating and
air conditioning, home electronics, home builders and remodelers, pools, spas, landscaping and many
more. And, the “Must See Marketplace” features photographers, jewelers, craftsmen and artisans.
This year’s show brings William Moss, host of HGTV’s “Dig In” to Buffalo. Moss will appear at the second
weekend of the show, March 11-13, and will present on small-space garden solutions at 1 and 4 p.m. each
day. After graduating from Northwestern University, Moss joined the Master Gardeners and began
assisting with habitat restoration and greening efforts. This led to a career as a horticultural educator at
the Chicago Botanic Garden working with youth programs and adult continuing education courses.
Jarod Miller of Animal Planet returns to this year to host The World Series of Stupid Pet Tricks. Miller is the
star of Animal Planet’s “Animal Exploration with Jarod Miller.” In 1996, Miller started his own wildlife
production and education company, “Wild Encounters,” and has since traveled to more than 13 countries,
focusing on areas in South America, Central America and Equatorial Africa. The competition, co-hosted by
97 Rock, will showcase pet cats and dogs of Western New York and their stupid tricks on the first weekend
of the show, March 4-6.
The Buffalo Home & Garden Show is adding a new ingredient to this year’s show: cooking. During the first
weekend of the show, on Saturday and Sunday, Chefs from Niagara Country Community College will
present a total of six, 45-minute cooking demonstrations. The menu includes Pan Roasted Asparagus,
wrapped in Prosciutto with a balsamic glaze and shaved asiago; pan seared spring lamb loin, tsatziki
sauce, minted Israeli couscous and sweet red peppers; and a surprise dessert by Chef Maria.
During the second weekend of the show, March 11-13, wine, champagne and other delicious ingredients
are cooking in the Barefoot Wine and Bubbly Kitchen with Chef Randy Arnold. Chef Randy, the Barefoot
Ambassador, has represented the winery for over 20 years. He will be hosting a happy hour, brunch and
sharing recipes. Barefoot is the official Wine and Bubbly of the Buffalo Home & Garden Show.
