Helping Hands for the Holidays
City Mission needs donations to help feed families this Thanksgiving
Every year numerous organizations in Western New York step up to help those who may not have the resources to provide a nice meal at Thanksgiving. The Buffalo City Mission has been serving the poor in Western New York since 1917 and they are in need of the community’s help. As of November 9, a number of turkeys have been collected, but the Mission is still short of meeting its 3,000 goal set this holiday season.
Later this month, volunteers and staff will prepare and deliver thousands of dinners to homebound families and senior citizens through the Mission’s “Turkey Express” program. Meanwhile, hundreds of shelter guests will celebrate Thanksgiving with a meal prepared using donated turkeys and plenty of fixings.
People can drop off turkeys at the Buffalo City Mission’s Men’s Community Center located at 100 East Tupper Street between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays.
“We desperately need the community’s generosity and support this holiday season,” said Aubrey Calhoun, director of public relations/development at Buffalo City Mission. “Our services are needed more than ever this year because many families are struggling to make ends meet.”
Last year, the Mission served more than 250 people at its Thanksgiving community meal and delivered more than 3,500 meals to the poor and homeless individuals and families of Western New York through the “Turkey Express” program.
Please help the Buffalo City Mission by making a donation.
